Does a Bear Commute in the Woods?

Traffic Signal in the Forest

How do you use your National Forests? Are you a camper, hiker, equestrian, mountain biker, motorcyclist or an Off-road driver? Given that the National Forests aren't growing (in acreage) but the number of users is, there is some friction between different user groups. To address growing traffic in the woods, the US Forest Service is asking for your input on how our National Forests should be used in a new Travel Management Plan.

The Santa Fe National Forest released its
Proposed Action for Managing Motorized Travel on July 10, 2008. The proposal marks the beginning of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for this project. The scoping period will be 45 days long, continuing through August 14, 2008. There will be 13 public meetings on the Travel Management Plan including a Santa Fe meeting on Tuesday Aug. 12, 2008, 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 107 W. Barcelona Road.

So, please take some time to read the proposed Travel Management Plan and get involved by attending a public meeting or sending in your comments.
